Random 101

Plucking Images [and memories]
At Random From My Hard Drives

Why Not ?

- Ready Or Not, Here I Come -
I photographed a football match between Arirang [a Korean team]
and Army at the Ateneo High School Field sometime late 2008.

- Badminton at the Mall -
Shooting badminton for the first time, ever, I positioned myself several floors
above the Mega Mall Atrium to compose this photo.
[Summer, 2008]

- Green Day -
The FEU Tamaraws won the 2010 UAAP Football Crown on March of that year.
I waited for the right moment for the FEU banner to unfurl,
against the green backdrop of the acacia trees - then clicked.

- Finesse Move -
Rachel Anne Daquis of the then Defending Champions FEU Lady Tamaraws
tries to outsmart Lady Archer Stephanie Mercado [back turned]
during the UAAP Ladies' Volley Finals last Marchof 2009.
The Archers lost Game #1 but won Games #2 , and #3
to dethrone the Lady Tamaraws.

- I'm Back -
James Martinez drives against Golden Stag Ian Sangalang during a
2010 Fil-Oil Pre-Season Basketball League match [at the Arena in San Juan].

James Martinez had to miss the entire UAAP Men's Basketball Tournament a year before [2009] due to an ACL injury.  The Blue Eagles {led by the likes of Rabeh Al-Husseini, Nonoy Baclao, and Jai Reyes} successfully defended their 2008 Crown [to achieve a repeat] against the challenge mounted by the Red Warriors {led by Elmer Espiritu, Paul Lee, Ivan Acuna, and Paul Zamar}.  If Martinez were 100% healthy at that period and did play, maybe, things could have turned out differently - Guess we'll never know.

[Remember that UE beat Ateneo by 20 points in Game 2 of that Best-of-Three]

- Agatha -
I took this wide-angle shot [hence the distortion of the shoulders]
inside a Journalism 101 Class at the Ateneo sometime early 2011.

- Gabe, Rayo, and Pio -
These are the"Village Idiots" er, I mean,
my pals from South Bay Gardens, Sucat, where I stay.
Kidding aside ->Gabe is now a HSchool senior at DLS Greenhills,
Rayo- I don't know where he studies,
Pio [who lives just 2 houses away] is now enrolled at UST, taking PT.
Took this snap during the Holidays sometime December of last year.
I do miss playing basketball with Gabe and Pio - Yup, those were the days -
Now, everybody's just too busy.

- Gotcha !-
This one of a few UAAP softball photos I took at the UST Field
in the early part of 2010. UST dethroned Adamson in February of that year.

- Tune Up -
Sam Bo-ot of the Ateneo Lady Eagles tries to cross the mid-court line
during a [May, 2011] tune-up match against the RP Ladies Team
at the Moro Lorenzo Gym in Ateneo.
The RP Team beat the Lady Eagles by a wide margin.
[That's Cassy Tioseco {#13} on the left]

- Kamiko, from Korea -
I used a cotton backdrop and studio lighting to craft this portrait.
She is the neice of an American friend of mine, Beth M,
from Dasma, Makati, where we had the shoot.  Years ago, Kamiko visited Manila and I had the pleasure of dating her a couple of times.
She's back in the US of A now.
[She is a classical violinist, a damn good one]

[BTW, I used FUJI 35mm Color Negative Film for this photo
had a print done, then scanned it]

- Black On Black -
This is from an 4-5 hours long photo shoot where I used
35mm KODAK Tri-X Black & White Film AND 35mm FUJI Color Negative Film.
[The photo above was taken with color film]
It was shot on the front doorway entrance of a house in Magallanes, Makati.
I had my friend wear an all-black blouse and used available light.

She is the same girl featured in MY FIRST EVER POST in this blog [albeit a different photo from the same photo shoot], when I started it last June 13. The title of the post is "God's Light". She came out in another entry too, titled "The One" - and BOTH posts Black & White portraits of the same girl were used.

Fact is the, the B & W portrait featured in the FIRST posting won me an award in a Canon Asia Photo Competition.-- Years Ago.

Leading scorer for B-Meg - Joe De Vance - 18 points

Here, De Vance is being defended by JR Sena, the leading scorer for Shopinas.

Along with Sena, Elmer takes turns in trying to contain De Vance.

[Ginebra - 88     Barako Bull - 83]

Pure Hustle
Mike Cortez finds a way to save the ball.

Mike Cortez drills in 5 of his 8 rainbow attempts for a 62% clip.

Ka-boom !
It is no surprise that Mike Cortez is one of the leaders
in the 3-point shooting department.

Willie Miller, again, leading Barako Bull in scoring, drills in 18.
He hauls down 9 boards too.

Danny Seigle slams 2 of the 8 points he puts in for Barako Bull.

It is in the rebounding department where the Gin Kings
beat the Barako Bull by a wide margin [58 against 39].
Willie Wilson controls 11 to lead all rebounders.

PCCL Final Four
December 6, Tuesday
Arena, San Juan

[Ateneo - 69     San Sebastian-70]

A few pictures, a few words - - -

- Stop Slaughter ! -

- Contain Kiefer ! -

- Clamp Down On Calvin !-

 JP Erram blocks John Marquez.
Erram has 3 blocks, playing 15 minutes on the court.

- Unstoppable Stag -
Calvin Abueva makes Kirk Long eat dust.
Abueva gets into the paint,[drive and draw]
and shovels a pass to Ian Snagalng who converts an easy two.
[13-frame sequence follows]

The Dynamic Duo of Abueva and Sangalang [Calvin scores 20 and Ian scores 18]nets a total of 38 points for Baste,
which is more than half of the team's 70-point output.
Abueva hauls down 11 to lead all rebounders.

Inside game, Outside Game - Calvin's got it !!

[Iyan din si Ian - napakahirap pigilin sa loob ! Maski pa ilang Atenista ang nasa ilalim, pagnakapuwesto si Sangalang - malamang makukuha niya ang offensive board at makaka putback, kung di man, ay defensive board.

- Tied up in a "Knot" so Pleasant Way -
Greg Slaughter and Michael Miranda jockey for position.
Slaughter end ups getting a falgrant after this sequence.
[5-frame set below]

- Great Game ! -

Gotta hand it to the Golden Stags - considering Arnold Pascual is in the injury list.
Even if by a single point, a W is a W.
Bravo Baste !

[Powerade - 99      Barako Bull - 95]

Marcio's the Man again.  He leads Powerade with 20 points.
[3-frame sequence shows Lassiter leaving Arboleda {#19}
behind to get into scoring position]

Growling Powerade Tiger Sean Anthony goes up against against three
Barako Bulls, misses point blank but earns two free throws.
Anthony scores 17 markers and hauls down 8 boards.
[9-frame sequence]

 Way to go Sean !

Casio, third in scoring for Powerade, scores 15 points.
JV sprints after a Barako Bull turnover [above]
for an uncontested lay up [below].

Joseph Evans, JV's real name, also dishes out 6 assists.

This guy makes it look so easy -

Charging Barako Bull Willie Miller penetrates a Powerade phalanx
for a smooth two.

This time, the Powerade D gets the better of Dyaln Ababou.
[4-frame sequence]

Willie Miller, Danny Seigle, Sunday Salvacion, and Dylan Ababou
all score double figures for Barako Bull,
 contributing 19, 17, 12, 1nd 11 points respectively.
Danny Seigle and Dorian Pena take down 8 rebounds each.

[Petron - 80     Talk n Text -78]

This match turns out to be a won game lost, for the Petron Blaze, that is.  With less than a minute left and Petron behind by only one, go-to-guy Alex Cabagnot drills a three. The Petron gallery is in a frenzy. TnT calls time time. With barely seconds left, Texter Kelly Williams gets into the teeth of the Blaze defense and earns two free throws [foul by Arwind Santos].  Williams makes free throw #1, misses free throw #2 but Japeth Aguilar snatches the rebound and streches for a sure two. The Petron fans are stunned and now the Texters' fans are the ones whooping it up and giving high fives.  Aguilar then seals the win from the charity lane - and even steals the ball from the Blaze as they throw in and as the buzzer sounds to end a most dramatic game.

 Alex Cabagnot's Big Three.
Apparently, it's not big enough.
Here's the foul by Arwind Santos.
[2 photos below]

Japeth Aguilar beats Arwind Santos for the offensive board
after Williams misses free throw #2.
Joseph Yeo can only look and expect the inevitable.
[2 photos below]

Harvey Carey pumps and shouts, the Blaze can only stare stupefied,
as Aguilar's putback trickles down  the net.

Bouuyah !!!

WHATTA GAME !!!

A few images from the first three quarters :

I say - - -

how you start matters, but how you finish counts.
