 Petron vs Talk n Text

Petron leads [2-1] entering -
Game #4 of Best-of-Seven Semis Series

Danny I. Delivers

Ranidel De Ocampo [#33] slams one in.
Ranidel contributes 15.

Jayson Castro converts on three of his six 2-point field goal attempts.
Here, he drives and draws.
Ryan Reyes' 17, Ranidel De Ocampo's 15 and Jayson Castro's 13
add up to 45 points for TnT.

In the 4-frame sequence below, Go-To-Guy Chris Lutz is challenged
by Ali Peek but Lutz, with a great mid-air acrobatic move,
protects the ball and manages to squeeze past Peek
to lay it in [this move illicits oohs and ahs from the banner crowd].
Hayop !!

Lutz chips in 13 for the Petron cause.

But it is Danny I's 22 big points [he scores 8 in the 3rd and 8 in the 4th]
that helps fuel Petron's 4th Qtr. comeback.

Larry Fonacier [#12] and Rob Reyes [#24] grapple for possession.

When in doubt  - call for a jumpball.

Rob Reyes [#24] hauls down a game total of 10 boards,
while team mate Alex Cabagnot
[below - converting on a trey] dishes out 10 assists.

Assist man Alex drills in 8 points in the 4th.

TnT leads by 6 at the end of the 1st half [44-38] and maintains it, going into the 4th [66-60], but the Petron Blaze outscore the Tropang Texters 25 to 16 in the last 12 minutes.

- End Game Drama -

With 38.6 ticks left, Petron has possession.
Denok Miranda takes a J.  He misses.

Castro gets both his hands on the ball but Arwind Santos
streches enough to pry the ball loose from Castro's hands.
[below]

Chris Lutz [hidden except for the top of his head in photo below]
hustles his way out of nowhere - -

 to grab the ball

with Castro trying mightily to snatch it.

Petron wins the battle for possession.  Tnt fouls.
Texters still not in penalty so -

The refs call a throw-in for Petron.
The Texters foul Lutz in the ensuing play.
[below]

Lutz converts both charities.
Score [85-82] Petron.

With 9 ticks left, TnT is able to launch 2 attempts but both miss.

The Blaze now lead 3-1 lead and need just 1 more win to wrap it up.

Rizza Mandapat [#9] posterizes May Roxas [#2] of FEU.

Leading ALL scorers, Queen Tamaraw Rose Vargas [#5] hammers in 13 - - -

ably supported by Wenneth Eulalio [#15]  - - -

seen above, blocking a spike by Mary Grace Diesta [#3] of NU - - -
and below, sticking out her tongue as the Bulldogs falter.

Mary Rose Baniel [#11] tries to score over Nepomuceno.
[next 2 photos]

Veteran Maricar Nepomuceno cannot do it all by her lonesome.
The rest of the team should step up.

Christine Rosario [#5] and Ivy Perez [#2] fail to stop an unidentifiable Tamaraw [covered] as FEU gets another point.
[next 3 frames]

The Lady Tamaraws dominate, take this one in 3 sets.

ADM  vs AdU
Lady Eagles Struggle To Take Down Lady Falcons in 5

 Soaring Lady Falcons Mae Zapanta [#5] - - -
[above & next 2 photos below]

along with veteran Pau Soriano [#2]

and Shiela Pineda [#3] lead the Adamson attack as they take Set #1.

Gorayeb's Lady Eagles are caught on the wrong footing - - -

but the expected Ateneo comeback comes in Set #2.

Adamson responds by taking Set #3 and Coach Gorayeb has to find a way to make sure Ateneo executes consistently on Set #4 or else it's Game Over.

The 4th Set is a battle of attrition as both squads engage in a see-saw battle,
neither team leading by more than 3 points.

Amy Amohiro [left] [sidelined by an ACL injury]
and Aeriel Patnogon [currently enrolled in a different university]
sit ringside to cheer for the Blue and White.

But as fate would have it, with the score tied at 23-all in Set #4 and the momentum clearly on Adamson's side, the ref gives a Yellow Card to the Falcons, not only that - the Yellow Card entitles a free point to the Eagles.

Ateneo eventually wins the 4th Set, saving them from a 3-1 loss, and sending the match into a deciding 5th Set.

Unfortunately, I fail to photograph the ref holding out the Yellow Card [I actually curiosly watch him bring out the card as he talks to Adamson Libero Angelica Vasquez ] - This is the first time ever I witness a volleyball team being penalized with a Yellow card.

With frustration and disappointment - The Adamson Falcons just have to deal with it - [they have a W within reach and a judgement call puts them off synch somewhat].

After the matter is clarified, the refs make sure Team Captains
Cainglet [Ateneo]  & Quinlog [Adamson] are on the same page.
Now they are tied with two sets apiece.

The game resumes w a deciding Fifth Set.

Ateneo is of to a bad start, w Ferrer making 2 consecutive errors - But - after that the Lady Eagles simply dominate and surge to a big lead - - -

and eventually prevail [15-11] in the 5th.

No doubt, it is a very bitter pill to swallow for the Lady Falcons.
The match is decided by a judgement call by the ref,
not by a play by a Falcon or an Eagle.

On the other hand, for the Lady Eagles,
it's like Lady Luck smiles on them on the Crucial 4th Set
-- but one cannot argue their superb execution on the deciding 5th Set.

Gervacio [#6] leads the Eagles with 19,
followed by Cainglet w 14 and Valdez w 12.
