September 27, Tuesday
On my way to Cubao, I had no idea how the weather would impact the traffic on C-5. Grade School and High School classes had been officially suspended but I was hoping that all the three UAAP Finals matches would push through as scheduled.
A rare occasion where you have the SLEX ramp to C-5 void of traffic,
9:00 am, on a weekday.
Nearing the toll booths, besides me, there was a lone sedan taxiing to C-5.
Along the vicinity of Market, Market !!, I realized how powerful Pedring's winds were and started to expect to see more hazards, along the way.
I was relieved to see the Lady's match between FEU and Adamson heading into halftime when I arrived at Araneta, but was not happy to hear that Game 2 of the Ateneo-FEU Finals Series match had just been postponed to Saturday, Oct. 1. Eventually, only around 5-10 press people showed up that morning.
Lady Tams Take Down the Lady Falcons
Force a Game 3
Having won Game 1 and leading by 6 [31-25] at the half, the Lady Falcons appeared headed for their 3rd Straight UAAP Championship. But come the 3rd Quarter, Coach Albano's charges played excellent defense, causing Coach Vega's wards repeatedly turn the ball over. Not only that, the Lady Falcons managed only 8 points in the 3rd, and allowed the Lady Tams to score 26.
Coming into the 4th, one knew that Adamson would adjust and might even overhaul the 12-point lead of FEU. But the proud ladies in green and yellow upped the ante and continued to outscore the defending champs. The final tally was [72-05] -- a convincing win for the Lady Tams.
NU Bullpups Beat the FEU FERN Baby Tams
Arrange a Final Deciding Game
Like the Lady Tams before them, the NU Bullpups were behind come halftime.
They managed to adjust their game to eventually come from behind to tie their Best-of-Three series vs La Salle. NU outscored FEU [19-10] in the 3rd and [19-7] in the 4th to eventually win [57-46].
The final matches between the Adamson Lady Falcons vs the FEU Lady Tamaraws and the NU Bullpups vs the FEU FERN Baby Tamaraws will be held on October 2, at the Arena in San Juan. The winners will be crowned Champions.
