86 + 89 + 62 = Big Love

Can't help it. Have to insert this post asap. Just gotta share [as usual, through photos] this particular sentiment.

My dad recently turned 86.  My mom will be 90 years old this July.  This May, my parents will celebrate their 63rd Wedding Anniversary.  Both of them are in generally good health.  Now, how big of a deal is that ?

- Teriyake Boy -86 years old / Teriyake Girl - 89 years old -

The other title I thought of for this post was "The Pride, The Patience, The Portait".Why so ?  There's a certain subdued sense of pride that I've felt in the past five years that I've been taking care of my parents [along with the support of my brother and his family].  Mind you, I never was the "good son" through high school, college, and the years after - but because of circumstances [as fate would have it] me and my brother have ended up caring for them [We have yaya for them too].  Sometimes I wish that I didn't have to deal with it, on the other hand - sometimes I feel honored to be able to serve my folks in a manner that I though could be even possible.  It is extremely difficult, extremely stressful at times, taking care [being very responsible] of two 80-plus parents who are experiencing their second childhood.  Grabe talaga - ibang klase. Tough, Tough, Tough.

[My attitude towards the situation is -> It's neither good nor bad - Just gotta deal with it.]  Suffice it to say - we manage.

I am looking forward to My Parents' 62nd Wedding Anniversary this May and
to My Mom's 90th birthday this July.

Weekend # 4 - Part 3

UAAP Men's football Tournament
Round 1
January 29, Sunday
Ateneo Campus

Last Year's Finalists [UP & UST] Meet Again

I'm a photographer, not a sportswriter - so I let my photos do the talking.

In the first half the athletes have to deal with the rain. I manage to get some pictures [have a camera "poncho"], but the images are too soft. By halftime the sky clears so I'm able to shoot these photos.

- New Blood - Fighting Maroon Michael Simms [#29] -

Justin Depano [#19] vs Ojay Clarino [#9]
[4 frame sequence]

Fighting Maroon Ayi Nii Aryee vs an unidentified Tiger.

What can I say about Maroon Keeper Ty Caballes and the UP Defense?
They Take Care of Business - They Always Get The Job Done.

[Take a look at the 4-frame and 10-frame sequences that follow]

In photos are:
Ty Caballes [#23] / Nino  Muros [#12 in maroon] /
Christian de Juan [#12 in white]

Holding fort on the other side, Tiger keeper Borrigas also gets the job done.
Here, Ayii Nii Aryee [#6] is shadowed bt Divino Regis [#6]
 who makes sure Borrigas controls.

Tiger Shirmar Felongco vs Maroon Ayii Nii Aryee -

Final - [0-0]

Trivia:  Felongco 's first name is Shirmar NOT Shinmar, as the UAAP records have been mispelling ALL THESE YEARS.  His mother's name is SHIRley and he was born on a Tuesday [MARtes].  Ergo ---> SHIRMAR.

I, too, was born on a Tuesday.  My mom's name is Lydia.  So, if my mom thought like
Mrs. Felongco, I could have been named Lydmar. [Thank God she didn't]

Lady Eagles Repeat Over The Lady Falcons
25-26   25-22   24-26   25-19

Assistant Coach [and former Lady Eagle] Charo Soriano knows all too well that the Lady Falcons almost beat them in their First Round encounter.

 - The Usual Suspects -
Alyssa Valdez and Fille Cainglet lead the Lady Eagles,
scoring 19 and 18 point respectively.

Dzi Gervacio [#6 - in white] contributes 13 points.

For the Lady Falcons -
Pao Soriano [#2] and Shiela Marie Pineda [#3] combine for 34 points.
Both total 17 points apiece.

Shiela [#3] sprints to save a point after Libero Angelica Vasquez [#1]
 keeps the ball in play.
[4 photos below]

Soriano and Pineda are ably complemented by Mae Zapanta [#5],
who contributes 9 points.
Below, A Nacachi and Dzi Gervacio of Ateneo try to block Zapanta.

Below, Mae Zapanta wins out in a joust vs Alyssa Valdez [#2].

In their last two encounters [in the First Round, a week previous,
and at the Uni-games in Roxas City, last Oct., 2011] - -

the Lady Eagles beat the Lady Falcons - so Coach Pante [above]

needs an  A +++ game from her wards -
[led by Team Captain Angelica Quinlog] to beat Gorayeb's girls.

The Lady Falcons manage to take the Third Set -

but the ever confident Ateneo crew  [above, being given pointers by their Captain - Fille Cainglet] regroups and closes it out in the Fourth Set, 25-19.
