Two Of A Kind

Stolen Shots of Nico and Kate

Always have been and always be a portrait photgrapher [even though I consider myself a good sports photog, among other things] Capturing people's emotions at that "right moment", in a single frame - wether it be in the privacy of a home, or in the cluttered, distracting environs of a sports arena - the latter presenting a tougher challenge.

Here are two of my favorites . . .

- Game Face -

[March, 2010] On the verge of losing the
Best-of-Three Championship Series to the UST Lady Tigresses,
Coach Ramil de Jesus of DLSU calls a timeout.

I remember, clear as day, the tense and DEADLY SERIOUS faces of the Defending  Champion Lady Archer Volleyball Team as they listened to Coach Ramil try to motivate them to give one last rally to hopefully overcome the seemingly insurmountable advantage [scorewise and psychologically]
the UST Lady Tigresses had had already gained.

I could feel the "heaviness" in the Lady Archer huddle
[it's like they knew the end was inevitable] - so I
positioned myself to try to capture the drama of it all in a single frame.
I focused on setter Kate Martinez, looked at her eyes, observed Coach's actuations, timed the shot to capture only Kate's left eye,
Coach de Jesus' hand gestures AND only Alarqa's right eye.

Luckily, I got the image I wanted in a single click.
[BTW, UST did dethrone DLS in the said match]

- Impish -

This is a photo if Nico Salva during a light moment on the Blue Eagle bench during the UAAP 2nd Rnd ADM-UST match.  The Eagles had the game pretty much in the bag so go-to guys  Nico,Tonito, Greg, Kiefer, Eman,
and Kirk were all relieved by Coach Black.
I observed [tutok talaga] the guys as they happily joked around at he bench.
While waiting for an interesting moment to capture, one of the coaches all of a sudden stood in front of Salva and obstructed my view of his right eye
 - I just pressed my shutter.

LOVE IT !

PBA Sunday - November 20

November 20, Sunday
Araneta Coliseum

Shopinas - Only A Spoiler Now
                              Alaska - 86                                         Shopinas - 80

- Sonny Thoss with a clutch putback in the dying minutes of the 4th -

- Sonny Thoss blocks Elmer Espiritu -
[This was during the 3rd Qtr - Thoss totalled 3 blocks]

Cyrus Baguio [a self confessed Kobe fan] takes it to the hole.
Paul Escobal and Jojo Duncil flank him.

Baguio scored scored double figures [12] along with Sonny Thoss [15],
Jayr Reyes [13] and Bonbon Custodio [10].

After RJ Jazul's 14-point First Half output, Aces Baguio and Baracael
make doubly sure that the former Letran standout be contained
in the 3rd and 4th Qtrs.
Only Jazul [24 for a season high] and Duncil [13] scored double figs for Shopinas.

- The Man of Steal is still in the building -
Eric Salamat had 2 steals that Sunday afternoon.
Paolo Hubalde is the victim in this Shopinas offensive set.

Yup, Yap contributed 17 markers and 4 rebounds,

He missed all of his three 3-point attempts, though.

- Anatomy of a steal -
Here is a 7-frame sequence of steal by Billy Mamaril from Mark Barroca

- Tit For Tat -
Mark Barroca retutns the complement, this time,

Jayjay Helterbrand for an eventual breakaway.
Here is the 5-frame sequence.

Jayjay Helterbrand, Ginebra's leading scorer with 17, in the attack mode.

- Mark Pingris - 10 points, 10 boards, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 block [above] -
The timeliness of his baskets AND 4 offensive rebounds made him
the AKTV panel's choice for Match MVP.

Missed the game, sayang,  [had so wanted to see the UP UAAP booters play - know a couple of dudes there]so - no pics to share.  [Auggh !!!]
Nyways, for the Stallions, it was Lee juo Yong  and Vincent Braga who scored.

                                            Global                           Army
                                                 3                                  0

Came just in time, just a minute or so before the game started, so here are some of my favorite images from the Global win over Army.  Izzu Izzeldin and Janrick Soriano combined for 3 goals for Global.  Fortunately, I was able to capture all 3 goals.

Goal # 1
Izzu Izzeldin - 10th minute

Goal # 2

Goal # 3

PBA Friday - November 18

Miranda The Man
                                     Petron - 75                       Barako Bull - 66

Leading all scorers, Denok Miranda put in 21 points.
He had 5 offensive boards to his credit too.

"Spider Man" Arwind Santos scores against Mick Pennisi.
Santos got 14 rebounds [the highest from both teams]
and scored 12 points.

Danny Ildefonso tries to foil a Pennisi jumper
in the last few ticks of the 2nd Qtr.

- Nonoy Baclao at Willie Miller's six -
Miller contributed 16 points [same output as that of Dorian Pena]
to the Petron cause.  Combined with Mick Pennisis's 12 markers,
the aforementioned Blaze hoopsters combined for 44 points.
[More than half of Petron's final tally of 66]

- Wayne Arboleda bodies up on Denok Miranda -

A defensive lapse by the Barako Bull leaves Alex Cabagnot for a sure twinner.
This was during the last 5 minutes of the game.
Cabagnot put in the same numbers as Danny Ildefonso [8 points].

Eluding Mike Pennisi , Arwind Santos drives baseline and
is greeted by Wayne Arboleda.

Besides havinga strong inside game,
Santos has a sweet stroke from the perimeter.
This clutch attempt from the top of the key hit only the bottomm of the net.

Danny Ildefonso scored 8 markers in 33 minutes of playing time.
He complemented it with 12 rebounds [4 offensive].

Miranda - You the Man.

Alaska Frustrates Powerade
                                Alaska - 121                                 Powerade - 111

Former Blue Eagle LA Tenorio

again top scores for Alaska [23 points].

After Baracael's 11 2nd Qtr points, the Powerade Tigers tightened their D on
Mac Mac on the 2nd Half, occasionally doubling on him.

Baracael was limited to 6 points in the 2nd Half.
His total game output was 22, next to LA Tenorio and  Tony de la Cruz,
who both scored 23 points each.

Alexs Crisano fouls Sonny Thoss.
Crisano accumulated a total of six personals which sent him to the showers
sometime in beginning of the 4th Qtr.

JV Casio - 26 points in 36 minutes
This guys getting better each game.

Cyrus Baguio [#3]- 7 points in 34 minutes
Marcio Lassiter [#13] - 25 points in 36 minutes
Both Cyrus and Marcio totalled 8 rebounds each.

Cyrus Baguio comes from behind

to block Gary David.

In this 3-frame sequence, Bonbon Custodio drives,

pumps the ball to elude Celino Cruz' block,
but this "hangtime" move gives the waiting Marcio Lassiter

enough time [probably a millisecond or so] to swat the ball at the right time,

sending the ball downtown - and the Powerade fans cheering wildly.

 - Big vs Big -
Jayr Reyes vs Doug Kramer

Eric Salamat steals the ball from Celino Cruz.

Celino returns the favor, this time, to Mac Baracael
.

- A frustrating moment for Gary David -
In this offensive sequence, he drove to the basket and was blocked.
Even before the ball hit the hardcourt
the referee was already signaling a turnover in favor of Alaska.
