Above is a 4-Frame sequence of the Sri Lankan foul on Stephan Schrock.  This tackle earned the Azkals a free penalty kick, which Phil Younghusband promptly converted, to seal our 4-0 triumph over the Brave Reds last Sunday.

AFTER a few postings dealing with UAAP Season 74, I will release my PHOTOS of the 4 GOALS by the Azkals.  Those points were netted by Chieffy Caligdong [Goal #1], Phil Younghusband [Goal #2], Angel Guirado [Goal #3] , and Phil Younghusband [Goal #4].  Abangan.

A Kiss from the Captain -- and a Few Images from July 3

Things in the Rizal Memorial Media Room didn't turn out frenzied or uncomfortably congested as I had predicted in my previous blog entry  --  It was relatively comfortable -- but it was the weather that turned out to be the party spoiler on the Azkals-Brave Reds match on July 3.  As if ON CUE, once the match got underway - it rained - not only that - it poured !  Luckily, I was prepared, having invested in a "pro rainsleeve" for my DSLR.  I had used that rainsleeve last May, in a rain-drenched soccer match - the result -- No Problemo.  Was pretty much soaked but my DSLR remained dry.  The ONLY thing that got wet was the exterior of the lens hood. From the hood screw backwards everything was secured, AIR-TIGHT and  DRY. 

This time, it rained so hard, that even with a hood on my tele, the lens filter was smudged with water droplets -- of course one never points his camera up when it's raining -- my viewfinder too was constantly wet, not to mention my glasses [which I had to keep on wiping] -- but, well, all that was just part of the "fun" that afternoon. My backpack was so soaked but fortunately it wasn't enough for my other DSLR and laptop to get wet.

Photos that could have been so many times sharper, if not for the rain, turned out hazy. Fortunately, by the 2nd Half the sky had cleared.  Photogs without camera waterproofing were good again to go [I heard of 2 photographers whose cameras simply stopped functioning, after getting their equipment wet.   Lottsa Guts but No Glory]  

Had more "normal", decent action pics by the 2nd half.  Despite the hassle of shooting under a strong downpour - at least now I know that my rainsleeve is not enough to protect my DSLR in a real downpour [improv has to be made].  If I'm a smarter, better photog, after July 3, even just a wee bit, I'm happy with that.

Sunday Morning

Rizal Memorial - It's 8:33 a.m. and I'm the first photog to enter the Media Room.  [Cathy Rivilla, one of the Media Coordinators just dropped by] [Not to worry Cathy, you'll get your on-the-spot portrait sooner than you think [At the rate things are going I might have to steal one between now and sometime this evening - when hopefully, we'll all be celebrating a win -- and Yes, Cath,  If I can make it better than Sel's portrait which I took last Friday, I will.] Frankly, I think it's going to be frenzied here later - There are not enough outlets for the media [TV videographers, photographers, writers].  I just counted four [4] outlets !! -Actually its down to three now cause I'm using one already as I transcribe this entry.

I always hope for the best, but am expecting the worst.

NBA 3-on-3

On the past 2 days that I attended press briefings for the July 3 [Azkals vs Brave Reds] match at the Rizal Memorial Stadium - I  found time to drop by the MOA, in the afternoon, to check out the NBA 3-on-3 Event.   Approximately 112 Teams registered for this 3 day event [July 1-3].  That meant 448 young hoopsters registered, since each team has a substitute. This gathering of basketball lovers, from all over the archipelago, is being graced by Horace Grant, a former team mate of MJ in Chicago, [If I remember correctly Grant has a few Championship Rings as a Bull and one Championship Ring as a Laker] and six members from the NBA New York Knicks City Dancers.

I'll have to miss the culminating day of this event since I'll be at Rizal Memorial tomorrow afternoon covering Philippines vs Sri Lanka.

Correction !!

At the Media Press Conference/Briefing earlier at 2 p.m. it was clarified by Mr. Rick Olivares [Media Officer] that the Azkals will be wearing BLUE, and NOT WHITE, as I previously posted yesterday evening at this blog.  

Mizuno has several hues of blue, but I am not exactly sure if this is the shade

for tomorrow's outfit.  It could possibly be a darker shade [as in the jacket of the Azkal in the left] or a much lighter one.  Guess we'll all find out at match time.

Sa Pula O Sa Puti ?

When I accompanied Media Officer Mr. Rick Olivares and his assistant ,Ms. Mia Domingo, at the Mizuno store at Magallanes, after lunch earlier,  Mizuno General Manager Paolo Cagalingan showed me the complete outfit Team Azkals will don this Sunday.  It's all white. [They wore dark blue last Wednesday at the away match].  Logic says the Brave Reds from Sri Lanka will wear red.
