Lady Tigers Over Lady Warriors in Three Straight Sets
[25-21    25-15    25-16]
Arrived too late to catch the UST-UE match [so, no game pics here] but managed to capture the Lady Tigresse in civies, with the blessing of Coaches Odgie Mamon and Vit Ponce de Leon.  [They, the Tigresses were set to proceed altogether to the UP Campus Chapel, after the game, to pay their respects to Ma-an Panganiban who passed away a few days previous.]

Five JPEGs, of the Tigresses in civies, follow:

[These 5 pics have actually been posted in a previous entry
- anyway no harm done reposting them]

Astig At Puso

Astig Talaga ang Talk & Text
Pero Iba Pa Rin Ang Pusong Powerade

Weeks ago I finished my first ever coverage of a PBA Conference - The Philippine Cup.  Course, UAAP will always be my favorite but somewhere along the way, after about a month or two shooting the Philippine Cup, I also got to like the PBA.  I had a favorite team, favorite players, and  a team that I got to dislike [not hate] very much, and one player who I  got to hate because of his style of play.  Suffice it to say,  had a few favorite moments captured digitally.
too.

But looking back at the Finals Series where Talk & Text beat Powerade in 5 matches - What I can say is that - it was all good.  The Texters desrved to win.  They had awesome firepower in the persons of Fonacier, Castro, Peek, de Ocampo, they had great defensive smarts provided by Reyes [ he had 10 steals in game #5].  They had a great coach in Chot Reyes - They had experience too.  And as everybody expected they handily won over the Powerade Tigers.

Maybe, if it was B-Meg or Rain or Shine vs the Texters - a more evenly matched Championship Series might have been fought. But - In the Playoffs - Bottom-seed Powerade eliminated [and surprised everybody] by eliminating the Top-seed, highly favored B-Meg Llamados in 2 straight wins [by that time I had already been a Powerade fan].  Then came the Best-of-Seven Semis between Rain or Shine and Powerade, where again, the Tigers overachieved and took down the favored Elasto Painters in seven excrutiating matches.

I'm sure losing to the Texters, and settling for Runner-Up, in that Game # 5 was tough on the Tigers, but in the first place, they should have been beat by B-Meg way back in the playoffs  and/or at least been eventually knocked out by Rain or Shine - but they managed to make it to the Finals to face a far more superior team.

And as my title goes - Astiga Talaga ang TnT - pero -
Iba Pa Rin Talaga ang
 Pusong Powerade.

This image [which is how I choose to remember the Philippine Cup,] taken after Powerade knocked out B-Meg last Dec.18, 2011]will always be a favorite.
For me, those who have overachieved way beyond their limits will always be the true champions.

{The present PBA Conference is not on my to-do list - The UAAP Football, Volleyball and Baseball Tournaments [plus other out-of-town shoots] are on my plate right now - but I'll eventually return to the PBA in due time}

Poolside Film Portraits [Solo]

Lately, I've been digging through my film archives, and segregating the standouts from the forgettables.  From a couple of hundred analogue prints per box {I have several boxes - w/ [5 x 7]s, [3 x 5]s, plus a small pile of [8 x10] prints} - down to a managable arbitrary number -- Hopefully, "blending in" these old film prints in thematic posts randomly in between my sports entries might add a little variety to this otherwise 100% sports-oriented blog.  Well - Whatever - - - Her goes.

Agua Bendita
Andi Eigemann loved to swim when she was a child.
It is not surprising that after a little over a decade, she took on the lead
role in the Teleserye -> Agua Bendita.

This Rookie Of The Year Scores in Pairs

Three years ago I met [and got to photograph] Cristina de los Reyes.  At that time she was a sophomore at DLSU Zobel, and a member of the RP Girls U-16 Team [coached by Ernie Nierras].  On February 16, 2009, [Monday morning] at the Ateneo Campus [during a friendly] , Cristina led her team to victory over the visiting Guam Team, by scoring two goals. {I believe the Final was [RP-2 -Guam-1]}

Almost exactly three years later [almost to the day], January 29, 2012 - the same Cristina, now a rookie for the UP Lady Maroons leads her team to victory over the Ateneo Lady Eagles, by scoring two goals too !! [pun intended].
{This time the Final is [UP-3 ADM-1] - another Lady Maroon, named Dagdag,
[pun intended too] put in UP's 3rd Goal}

A few weeks later, I heard from somebody that de los Reyes scored a pair of goals again in a UAAP match, this time vs FEU.

An interesting coincidence, if I may say so. What if I got to photograph the other pair of goals she scored in that other UP-FEU match ? That would have been very, very blogworthy - Right ?  At least I have some images of the Feb.16 and Jan.29 goals.

This photo came out at the Philippine Daily Inquirer a few days later, albeit in Black and White.  The only other soccer photo of mine that came out in a daily was that of Chieffy Caligdong's goal vs Mongolia, Feb.9, 2011, World Cup Qualifying series of games. {that photo came out in a 2-page spread}

The Journey

Over a Decade Since

I remember oh so clearly, as if it were just yesterday, the First Ever Football Class [Summer of 2001] of my nephew Inigo "Nace" Gonzales [born 1994].  I was there to photograph it - the first exercises [1st 2 indoor photos below] with a small junior soccer ball.  Eventually the classes moved outdoors [that's where the 3rd photo was taken] as the sessions continued.

Fast-fast-fast forward to the present - Summer 2012 - and now I look at my nephew [4th photo] - a seasoned footballer [a veteran of many an NCR, RIFA, Alaska Cup, Xavier Cup, Junior Kaya game] about to enter college - and hoping to join the UFL [despite the option of playing in the UAAP] while pursuing a degree in engineering.

How time flies.

What can I say ?  How do I encapsulate in photos [considering I did miss a lot of his matches] his 10+ years soccer odyssey ?  How do I present his evolution in a MOST interesting manner in this blog ? [He will be playing his last football match for Southridge in a few days]  I'm in no real hurry but it definitely will be no easy task. Maybe I'll stagger the postings - well, whatever - Just gotta start reorganizing my analogue and digital "Nace Gonzales" archives first.

For the moment here are four photos from my archives:

The next 3 photos were taken w/ Fuji 35mm Color Negative Film
