Doodling with Words and Pictures

It's fun to superimpose text over pictures in the computer -- It is also very practical. A few years ago. I stopped having traditional calling cards made. I've been using my own photo material [occasionally, downloaded images from the internet] and just pasting/superimposing the proper text and cropping the resulting images into rectangles with a 2:3 length to width ratio, then having 4 images laid out and printed  on to 4 x 6 photo paper.

I eventually cut the prinout into 4 calling cards [with the same exact dimensions --> 2" x 3"].  Fact is, If I lay out 4 separate calling card designs into that 4" x 6" template and have 10 of these 4" x 6" photo print outs done - I end up having a total of 40 calling cards with 10 pieces of each calling card design.  

Why buy Hallmark cards at National Bookstore?  With a computer, a decent graphic app [It doesn't have to be Adobe], an artistic eye and any sincere sentiment - Why not DIY ?  At this time of the year, I'm already figuring out what personal Holiday messages I might want to impart to the "people I care about" and the accompanying image to match it with.  You should try it - It doesn't have to be a perfect image or the perfect text -  As long as you manage to put a personal "graphic touch" to it - you'll be surprised at the responseS that you'll get.

Sometimes I just put text over any JPEGs for the heck of it. Wether the text be whimsical nonsensical, erotic, ridiculous, gross it don't matter -- it's really just doodling with words and pictures, or "flexing my artistic muscles in two dimensions", if I may call it that.   Delete some, keep some -- whatever -- It's all good.

For You Ateneo Lady Eagles Volleyball Team Fans

Letting Dzi Use My 7D

It's been over two weeks since my brief stay in Roxas City where I got to shoot a couple of Uni Games Basketball, Football, Track & Field, and Volleyball matches.

And of course, when it come to ladies volleyball, it's no secret --> I root [I go out of my way and make sure I have lots of photos of the girls] for the Ateneo Lady Eagles and wether it's in the UAAP or V-League, I always watch out for the next Ateneo Lady Eagles match.

Besides getting to shoot all their matches in Roxas, I was able to take souvinier pics of the girls at Baliwag [during one of their dinners] and at the Capiz Gymnasium when they watched and supported their 4-peat Champion Blue Eagle Basketball Team.  

What I did new this time, though, was hand over my Canon 7D to Dzi Gervacio, in the middle of their dinner [trip lang].  I simply told her which buttons to press and just left her alone to shoot stills or videos with the Canon - while I proceeded to eat my dinner [I was on the same table with Coach Roger Gorayeb and Tupas and Rick Olivares, while the girls where gathered around two separate tables].

It is just a short simple video showing Fille, Alyssa, Bea, Ella etc. having their dinner and smiling.  And like I said, it's just a simple remembrance - and I simply want to share it.

[problem is the short video can't seem to load - it always reads "error" - I've been trying for the Nth time !!! - no go - Even in trying to delete the video icon -- nothing's happening ? # *] What the ??  I guess we'll have to settle for my souvinier stills instead. [at least i tried]

Moving on Then ---

The two photos below - I like them for their spontaniety and clutter.

I actually make it a point NEVER to photograph people when they are eating, 

[particularly, if they have something in their mouth] but this time I simply had to break that policy of mine because the "moment" was there and I just had to capture it.  No harm done. Actually, I find Den Den's [in spectacles] gesture and [is that tongue-in-cheek or food-in-cheek] facial expresssion cute.

The next four images were taken as the girls were about to leave.

[I obviously cropped out the empty glasses, empty plates, and water bottles.]

The next twenty one JPEGs were all taken during one of the Ateneo basketball games the girls came to watch [at the Capiz Gymnasium]. The basketball team actually watched and cheered on the girls the during the previous evening's volley match at the Filamer Gym.

Arwind Santos top scored for Petron again [18 pts.].

The other Blaze players who put in double figures were Joseph Yeo [16 pts.], Alex Cabagnot [16 pts.], Rey Guevarra [12 pts.], and Dennis Miranda [12 pts.] 

Santos, along with Baclao both grabbed over 10 boards each 

[Arwind got 11 while Nonoy got 12].

For Shopinas, It was Ren Ren Ritualo [17 pts.], RJ Azul [16 pts.] and

James Sena who scored over 10 points each.

Talk n Text Turns Back Powerade

Marcio Lassiter's 15  2nd Qtr points gave a big boost to Powerade.  Entering the 3rd Qtr with 43-40 lead over the Texters it seemed that they [Powerade] were well on their way to erasing the ghosts of last Sunday's humiliating loss to Rain or Shine. But Talk n Text's 55-point 2nd half changed all that.  Even with Jimmy Alapag in civies, Ali Peek on a hospital bed, and Ryan Reyes having to be carried out [after a bad fall in the last few minutes of the 3rd] Chot Reyes' charges managed to come out with key defensive plays to stymie Powerade's 4th Qtr surge.    

Gary David and Marcio Lassiter tried to lead their team, entering the last quarter, but the Texters' all-out hustle, defense, and great clutch shooting all but neutralized their efforts. 

Lassiter, who had already accumulated 22 points in the first three quarters managed a measly 2 points in the fourth. [Nevertheless, his 24-pt. game was his career high so far] [His powerade team mate, Doug Kramer, also had a  career high - 20 rebounds]

Japeth Aguilar put in 7 big points in the fourth [he also had a total of 4 blocks;  Jayson Castro had 2 blocks].  One of Castro's blocks was on a 3-pt. attempt by Gary David, in the 4th Qtr.  Tropang Texter Jared Dililnger's three consecutive rainbow attempts in the end game [which all went in and accounted for 9 of his game total 18-pts.]  high lighted TnT's 24-point 4th Qtr [Powerade scored 20 in the 4th Qtr].

When that Third Dillinger-Dagger-Three hit the bottom of the net - Everyone knew it was game over for Powerade.

In the 1st Half, Lassiter time and again drilled it from 3-point territory.

During the 2nd Half, he went more for the high percentage shots in the paint.

A daring undergoal move

Unfortunately, Gary missed this one.

David missed this one too, but he earned two
free throws from the Castro foul.

In this sequence, David's quickness proves too much for 
Japeth Aguilar - David scored on this one.

This defensive gem by Jayson Castro on a Gary David trey
proved to be the most crucial block of the game.
It came during the last five minutes of the game,
when the outcome was still undecided.

Try as he might during the crucial 4th Qtr, 

Marcio Lassiter netted only 2 points.

This failed attempt was followed by a frustration foul on Jared Dillinger.

Both teams had 54 rebounds each. The Texters fared better from the field, registering 44% [37-84] while Powerade registered 37.6% [32-85].  The Tropang Texters had 6 blocks while Powerade had no blocks whatsoever.
