Early on, it was Mick Pennisi who was racking up the points.

Ababou leaves his defender behind for a sure one.
Dylan put in 20 while Mick contributed 18 points.

Dillinger scores a three just as the 1st half ends.
Jared totalled 10 points.

- Miller Time -

It was Willie Miller who led all scorers with 27 markers.

Miller stayed on court the longest too, he accumuluated 39 minutes.

From beyond the arc [3-5] and from 2-point range [9-12],

60% and 75% respectively - a good shooting night for Willie.

Reyes tries to scoop one one in between Maliksi and Pennisi.
Ryan scored 16, next to tream mate  Jayson Castro's 23.

 

Japeth slams one in.
Aguilar made only 2 of his 7 field goal atempts.

Rain or Shine   vs   Meralco

During the 1st Half, with the Elasto Painters behind by 1 [23-24],  

Ronjay Buenafe rattled of 6 straight points.  From this point on,

 they never relinquished the lead, eventually winning the match,

despite a spirited 4th Quarter rally by the Bolts.

[All of Ronjay's 9 points came in the 2nd Quarter]

Espinas being defended by Norwood.
Espinas contributed 19 points, Norwood pitched in 14.

Gabe gets open for mid range J from the left.

After being limited to 9 points in the 3rd Quarter, and being behind by as much as 23 points,  the Meralco Bolts [led by Chito Lanete] 

came charging back, scoring 35 big ones in the last 12 minutes.
[Lanete put in 12 of his 14 point total in that strech]

-  Nothing Personal ? -

Asi Taulava complemented Lanete's scoring, pumping in 8 points, in the 4th but Ronnie Matias [who earlier in the end of the 1st Half had a brief exchange of unpleasantries with the Tongan]
 plastered Asi in this play.

The Bolts had Lanete, the Elasto Painters had Lee. 

Paul managed to get into the paint [one too many times] 

to score clutch baskets [picture below].

He scored 9 points in the 4th.

3 of Gabe's 14-point total and 4 of Larry's 11-point total

helped settle the issue.

Wouldn't know if these were Meralco or Rain or Shine fans -

All I know is that they simply felt at home -

and had a good time watching the game.

Will miss the PBA matches at Cuneta this Friday
 but I hope to be back at the Araneta on Sunday, the 23rd.

My UFL-PBA Sunday



From UMak to Araneta

Barely caught the end of the UFL Army-Garuda match were the the Indonesians were massacered by the Pinoys.  [10-0 -- 12-0, thereabouts]  [I never bothered to clarify]  At least, I got to witness the 2-0 win by Pachanga over the Stallions.  Credit goes John Bedic [28th minute] and to Oljamiren Christopher, from Nigeria [44th minute].  That was an intense match. 

Then I had to rush to the Araneta to catch, hopefully, at least the 4th Quarter of the Petron vs Shopinas game, which was handily won by the Blaze [98-87].

That loss gave Shopinas a 0-3 win-loss slate.

Another team that went down 0-3 was Alaska.  Powerade, coached by Bo Perasol, made sure Joel Banal's boys would stay winless.  Gary David punctuated the 12 point W over the Aces [79-67] with a 26-point performance.

Felongco  [#27] just seemed to appear at my LCD screen

 time and time again.

Among the Stallion and Pachanga players,

Felingco had the most number of shots in my SLR, and good ones, at that.

Diop, a Nigerian, sports #21 for Pachanga.

Christopher Oljamiren, from Senegal, wears Jersey #24.
He put Pachanga ahead [2-0] in the 44th minute.
[Missed that shot - I was a second too late]

Petron    vs.   Shopinas

Petron frontman Arwind Santos, again, fuels a Blaze win,

this time over the Shopinas Clickers.

Although he was third in scoring, with 16 points -

Miranda and Lutz put in 18 and 17, respectvely -

Santos got 21 boards [8 offensive].

Sena, Shopinas' leading rebounder, managed 12.

Former brothers-in-arms/comrades/Knights RJ Azul and Rey Guevarra

share a light moment after the Petron win.

I love capturing simple, fleeting moments like these -

[that say so much]

- they're actually harder to catch than action shots.

- First half action -

Cyrus Baguio and Tony de la Cruz try to steal the ball from Sean Anthony.

3 points in 36 minutes on the floor, and 1 out of 10  field goal shooting -

not the kind of performance one would expect from LA Tenorio.

Except for a few brief moments in the 2nd Quarter, 

Alaska never really got to make any headway. 

Time and time again Powerade would take them of their rythm.

Former Ateneo team mates Doug Kramer and LA Tenorio

 contest a rebound.

Gary David's 26 points [helped along by 8 of 13  2-point shots made]

made him the game's MVP.

Friday the 14th

Talk and Text    vs   Rain or Shine

Ronjay Buenafe charges into Ryan Reyes in this bit of first half action.

Buenafe contributes 7 points for RoS while Ryan Reyes puts in 19 for TnT.

J.R. Quinahan plays good D against Ali Peek.

Jason Castro, intercepts a pass intended for Paul Lee.

Castro puts the finishing touches on the Talk & Text win.

Jayson finishes with 18 points.

Harvey Carey proves to be the big difference, scoring 28 markers,

in the Texters triumph over the Elasto Painters.

While the the Barako Bulls and the Gin Kings slug it out on the first half, 

Paul Lee stays around to dote on Gabe Norwood's baby boy, Cassius.

Ronald Tubid steals one from Willie Miller.

Some Caguioa fans - Unfortunately for them and their team

the Barako Bulls outhustle the Gin Kings all night long.

J.C. Intal misses all of his 4 field goal attemps and

 can only manage 42% [3-7] from charity lane, for a 3-point total.

I manage to steal a "close-up" smile here.

Great chops, Pretty face.

This former Growling Tiger and Smart Gilas team player

 puts in 20 points in 29 minutes. 

[60% 3-point shooting, 62% 2-point shooting, and 33% free throw shooting]

 Dylan Ababou is hands down, the game's MVP.

Another Barako Bull who puts in good numbers is Leo Najorda.

[50% 3-point shooting, 57% 2-point FG shooting,  50% free throw shooting]

He totals 12 points.

My Third Day at the PBA

October 12, Wednesday

Meralco  vs.  Shopinas

Minutes before game time -

Sel Guevara and Aaron Atayde pose for a snap.

 Gabby Espinas, leading scorer for Meralco with 16,

tries to get past Elmer Espiritu.

 RJ Azul, Nelbert Olomon, and Mark Isip scramble for possesion.

 Borgie Hermida comes to help out Magi Sison 

who is being harassed by Mark Isip.

 Chico Lanete's 6 point output in the 4th helped keep the Clickers at bay.

 As good as money in the bank,

Lanete converts a trey.

Clicker Ogie Menor put in 9 points, but incurred 4 fouls,

in the 29 minutes he played.

Lanete himself got called for 4 infractions.

Chico put in 18 minutes.

It was Asi Taulava's clutch fade away that practically 

won the game for the Bolts. 

 Shopinas' 32.6% field goal clip [29-89]

was a far cry from Meralco's 40.3% [29-72].

B-Meg  vs  Alaska

Simon was called for an offensive foul on this sequence.

P.J., together with four other LLamados, put in double figures.

Sonny, meanwhile, had three Aces scoring double figures, along with him.

He led Alaska in scoring with 18.

 Coaches Banal and Cone encourage their boys.

 One time MVP James Yap makes his defender eat his dust.

Yap topscored for B-Meg with 20.

In the boards department, Yap and de Vance took down 7 each.

LA Tenorio is greeted by the ferocious B-Meg D.

Deadly

Joshua Urbiztondo drills in

two consecutive threes [practically from the same spot] 

for good measure, in the 4th Quarter.

Joshua's total point output was 12. 

Despite Urbiztondo's clutch shooting, the Aces managed to stay
within 2 points, [with less than a minute left], but Kerby Raymundo's

drive from the left proved to be the game clincher for B-Meg.
He is seen here during a first half offensive set.

Cone's charges shot better from the field [34-73] for a 47.9 % clip.

Banal's boys managed [30-73], registering 41.1 %.
